Choosing aluminum furniture:
In selecting aluminium outdoor furniture, check the frame structure for its thickness (about 1.4mm) and resistance to breakage by carefully examining the quality of the welding and the smooth finish. Aluminium furniture that is made with powder coating process, which is UV resistant coating, can protect the product from the sun. This means your aluminium setting will resist fading and color degradation (inferior quality looks like a water mark when damaged from the sun) for many more years than inferior quality furniture built to a budget price.
Tips of Maintenance:
There is likely no special treatment needed for good quality aluminium furniture except cleaning it from dust, because with furniture made of cast aluminium, there is absolutely no chance of rust and your set can remain outdoors for all seasons. But if the chairs have seating pads, wash them when they get dirty.
Choosing Wooden furniture (Teak, rattan or Wood):
Make sure the furniture is made of certified wood with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) strict rules of reforestation. Practicality is a must. Because the material is not so durable and weather resistant (even if is claimed to be so), it has to be easily stored when not in use, taking up just little room in the shed or garage.
Tips on maintenance:
Simply keep your furniture clean using a damp cloth and avoid permanent exposure to the elements by either covering your furniture or storing away under cover when not in use.
Colors:
The most popular colors for outdoor furniture are natural colors, such as: charcoal, sandstone and shiny silver.
Accessories:
You can choose from a wide range of accessories available, from parasols (umbrellas) and umbrella bases, outdoor furniture covers, unbreakable glass wear for outdoor use, place mats, cushions, gazebos, swing benchs, matching chaise lounges, to coffee tables or ottomans.
GENERAL TIPS:
Don’t go shopping for outdoor furniture until you have accurately measured the space you have, and bring a tape measure with you. Allow 80cm extra width on each side of the table you prefer for your chairs to move in and out. This will give you the space required. E.g. If you choose a 182cm X 106cm rectangle table, you will need a space of 342cm X 266cm to fit it with 6 chairs.
