Inspiration From The East: 3 Home Design Tips


Many home and furniture decorator have been inspired by the antiqued Eastern style. And the style has become even more popular these days along with the echo of "back to nature" movement. The influence of the Eastern style can be seen in natural materials; like bamboo, rattan, or teak and by the natural color scheme used, like brown, gray, green rusty yellow, and broken white.

What could be more like heaven, than having a sanctuary with the ambiance of long holiday in the exotic Eastern tropical paradise? Steal the style of spacey and minimalist style of Japanese interior, or elegant Indonesian style from colonial era. Whatever style you will adapt, here are some tips to have an Eastern inspired home interior:

1. For the entire house:
- Put some potted plants with green leaves in the rooms. They will add a touch of tropical ambiance.
– Using wooden floors is the best way to create a warm tropical nuance for your home. – Use natural color scheme. Use broken white or crème for the color of the walls instead of plain white. You can apply certain painting techniques to have more antique effect to the walls.
– Use elements of decoration such as elegant hand made bookcases, hand crafted mirror, antique paintings, woven baskets, or perhaps, souvenirs you collected from your trip to the Eastern countries.
– Make a statement by using screen that will make a stunning filter and give a beautiful lighting effect. Or you can use a shade for your window for the similar lighting effect.

2. For Eastern inspired bedrooms:
Antique wooden beds would be a perfect choice for your bedrooms. Choose the one made from teak. This material will last forever and will give an antique feel. Check out this beautiful four-poster bed in colonial style.

3. For the furniture:
The key words for antiques Eastern style design are: natural, antique, and exotic. So avoid furniture with fine furnishing. There are wide ranges of elegant and stylish dining tables to complete your Eastern-style home. Sturdy and simple style teak dining tables will suit most of room décor, although they will achieve their best performance in eastern style room.
